The CVA Program offers a combination of knowledge AND hands-on skills... Students will have access to an interactive online video-based course offered by the Patterson Veterinary Academy (PVA)  

Program content includes: communication skills, animal husbandry, best safety practices, equipment maintenance, patient restraint, laboratory skills and practices, surgical assisting, leadership skills, cleaning and chemical handling, and so much more
Skills Development: Before taking their level 1 CVA exam, students must complete 500 hours of documented practical work experience under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian or credentialed veterinary technician. A checklist of required skills must be demonstrated before individuals are required to take their exam

 Evaluation

After completing all course modules, meeting experience requirements, students will then take their exam.
The online exam is comprised of 100 randomly generated questions (an authorized proctor must be available on-site for the exam) 70% correct answers are required to pass.
Each course purchase includes exam registration and prep materials.

Cost

The cost of the program is $295. This includes the exam fee

Renewal

Renewal takes place every two years. Five hours of CE are required to renew and a $30 application fee is required for renewal

 Who Qualifies

This training is intended for both current vet assistants and those aspiring to enter the profession.
Individuals must be 16 years of age to enroll. High school, CTE, and home-schooled students are welcomed and encouraged to enroll
