Vermont Veterinary Medical Association

Vermont Veterinary Medical Association Foundation, Inc.

The VVMA Foundation is now accepting applications for scholarships for the 2019/2020 academic year.  Application deadline is June 30.  Please click here for more information and the application.

The Vermont Veterinary Medical Association Foundation, Inc. (VVMAF) is a non-profit charitable organization whose main mission is to award scholarships to deserving Vermont veterinary students who plan to return to Vermont to practice.  Established in 2011 under the auspices of the Vermont Veterinary Medical Association, the VVMAF is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.  It is supported by donations from veterinarians and the New England Veterinary Medical Association.

Since 2012, the VVMAF has contributed $56,000 to Vermonters attending veterinary school.  With YOUR help, we hope to continue to make meaningful contributions to more future Vermont veterinarians!

We are pleased to announce the recipients of the VVMA Foundation scholarship awards to the following Vermont veterinary students for the 2018/2019 academic year.

Heather Curley of Jericho is a senior at the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She plans to work in Vermont at either a small or mixed animal practice. She has strong ties to Vermont and the VVMA and volunteered at the VVMA Summer Meeting in 2017.

Melissa Trayah of Colchester is a junior at Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. She plans to become a radiologist and work in Vermont after going through a radiology residency. She has worked at multiple referral hospitals in the Burlington area.

Our Silent Auction at our 2018 Winter Meeting raised nearly $1,300 for our scholarship program!  Thank you to everyone who donated the items or bought them.   And a special thank you to Dr. Adrienne Snider of Petit Brook Veterinary Clinic for organizing it!

Why Give to the VVMAF?
The educational debt of 2016 veterinary school graduates was $167,535, and 20% of them had debts over $200,000!  It is difficult for graduates seeking their first job to carry such a large financial burden on top of all their other living expenses.  We want to lessen their debt load and help Vermonters reach their goal of becoming veterinarians.  This is a great opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of future Vermont veterinarians and we hope you'll be a part of it!  Your contribution is tax-deductible.

Here are some present VVMA members who received past Foundation awards as veterinary students!
Kyle Bushee - Aeolus Animal and Equine Hospital
Emily Comstock - Maple Hill Veterinary Service

Megan Foy - Wood Pond Veterinary Services
Adrienne Snider - Petit Brook Veterinary Clinic
