Q: With the recent publicity about SARS, do I need to be concerned that animals can spread this disease?

A: While it is possible that the newly discovered coronavirus associated with SARS may have originated from an animal species, there is no evidence to suggest that animals are carrying or spreading disease during the ongoing SARS outbreak. Experimental studies are underway in several laboratories to address this question.
